MLC at National Beef Expo 2024: Championing Independent Livestock Classification
MLC Demonstrates Importance of Independent Classification at National Beef Expo
On Saturday, April 27th, Meat & Livestock Classification (MLC) participated in the National Beef Association Expo held at the J36 Rural Auction Centre in Cumbria. The event, dedicated to showcasing the British Beef Industry, provided MLC with a valuable platform to directly engage with farmers and industry professionals.
During the expo, the MLC team engaged producers in discussions highlighting the significance of independent classification and monitoring of dressing specifications to ensure equitable returns for farmers. Licensed MLC classifiers demonstrated the classification process with visual aids, showcasing how carcases are assessed for conformation and assigned a fat score.
In addition to classification, the team addressed dressing specifications and how different approved methods can impact carcase weight. MLC emphasised their role in monitoring dressing specifications to guarantee compliance and to prevent instances where carcases might be over trimmed before being weighed, resulting in potential monetary loss for farmers.
The event offered MLC a unique opportunity to connect with stakeholders and promote transparency in the British Beef Industry, reinforcing their commitment to enhancing industry standards and fostering relationships with the community.
